Garland PD Releases Name of Friday's Murder Victim and Surveillance Video of Fleeing Suspect

GARLAND – May 10, 2021 – The Garland Police Department has released surveillance video of a male suspect fleeing the scene of a murder on Friday evening, May 7.

The murder victim, now identified as Denver Yanes-Carrillo, 21, was gunned down while playing soccer in the courtyard of an apartment community in the 4200 block of West Walnut Street in Garland.

No motive for the shooting has yet been determined.

Police have identified Cuahutemoc Merlan, 21, as the suspected shooter. Garland PD is seeking public assistance in locating Merlan and a murder warrant has been issued for his arrest. If anyone has any information on his whereabouts, they are encouraged to call 9-1-1.

A reward of up to $5,000 has been issued for any information that leads to an arrest of Merlan.

Merlan is considered armed and dangerous.
